These Real School Lunch Photos Will Make You Lose Yours

The USDA may have passed higher nutrition standards, but according to these photos, school lunch can still be pretty nasty.

There’s been a lot of talk about improving school lunch over the last few years with the passage of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which sets higher nutrition standards for schools. But is mystery meat now a thing of the past? Not according to these photos.

Dosomething.org, the country’s largest non-profit for young people and social change, invited teens to post snapshots of their school lunch. Users can then vote to “eat it” or “toss it.” These are some of the grossest “toss it” photos from around the country, full of sandwich patties of unknown origin, overcooked veggies and -- sorry, we just threw up in our mouth a little -- insects right in the food.
