Do These Classic Books Need a Contemporary Twist?

Hollywood producers are a crafty bunch. Knowing full well that the book is almost always better than the movie, they’ll sometimes "update" beloved source material to what they consider an audience's contemporary cultural appetite.  Cases in point: Stuart Little, Treasure Planet, Enchanted, 10 Things I Hate About You, Dr. Dolittle, Matilda, Nancy Drew, and the upcoming Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars. The results are mixed, but the pitfalls are always enormous.

Here's a hypothetical list of what could happen to some favorite kid books if and when Hollywood adds "a modern twist."
