Does Kim Kardashian Deserve A-list Treatment?

The starlet may get special treatment at the airport, but not in the fashion world! Her stylist for a recent shoot admitted "fashion snobbery" made it a challenge to score designer duds for her

Kim Kardashian is one of the most popular celebrities in the world, but is she truly considered A-list?

Not according to the fashion world. The March issue of Elle features the reality star in a high-fashion photo shoot, showing off her curves in a series of luxury ensembles. But according to stylist Nicola Formichetti, many designers flat-out refused to let Kim wear their clothes in the magazine.

"It's fashion snobbery," said Formichetti, who called the shoot "a challenge."

In the end, Kardashian ended up rocking some impressive labels, including Tom Ford, Viktor & Rolf and Roberto Cavalli. We wonder which designers turned her down. More importantly, we wonder why.

For a long time now, the fashion elite have given Kardashian the cold shoulder. At first, it wasn't surprising. She was known as that vapid reality star who made a sex tape -- not exactly luxury-brand material.

Throughout the years, however, Kardashian has proven that her fame was no accident. She is hardworking, crafty, and brilliant at the art of building an image. She has elbowed her way onto the A-list and shows no signs of budging. She is also, not incidentally, drop-dead gorgeous.

Yet there's obviously something missing, as far as high-end designers are concerned. Is it because she's considered low class, with her Sears fashion line and skin-tight knit dresses? Maybe it's that old saw that she has "no talent" -- or, on the flipside, maybe she's too much of a multi-tasker, juggling TV shows and product lines instead of fully devoting herself to fashion. Or perhaps it's simply because she's not a size zero, and, sad as it is, many designers still don't want women with curves modeling their garments.

Whatever the issue, we suspect that the fashion industry won't freeze Kim out forever. Take these new Elle photos, which are unlike anything we've seen from Kardashian before. Styled by Formichetti (best known for his work with Lady Gaga), they walk the edge between crass and elegant; it's like Kardashian went shopping in Paris, but stopped in New Jersey on the way. These are risky outfits that not everyone could pull off, but on Kim, they're vampy, playful and perfect. The lines between high fashion and low fashion are getting blurrier every day -- and when someone wears clothes this well, it would be a shame not to let her have any.

And, don't think that this fashion diss fazes Kim Kardashian in the least bit. Believe us, she and her beau Kanye West are pretty confident with their status on the A-list -- they even get to travel by different rules. Stand with commoners during a security line? No thanks!

On Tuesday morning, the couple was entangled in a security breach when transferring flights at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. Upon landing stateside from Brazil, while en route to L.A., Kimye skipped a security checkpoint, courtesy of a (starstruck?) TSA employee.

"An airline employee escorted the two travelers through a non-public area in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight," said a TSA spokesperson to the Daily News. The source also said that the airport emplyee was to blame, not Kim and Kanye.

The hullaballoo caused the flight to be delayed for an hour as the stars were asked to be screened privately. Does the "A" in A-list stand for annoying? We're sure the passengers of their JFK-LAX flight seem to think so.
