The Strategy: It's super easy to make the leap from concern to call-the-principal-right-away panic. But escalating every bullying incident to Defcon 5 isn’t going to solve anything.

Why It Works:
"You don't want to immediately rush into the school and berate the teacher or the principal," says Borba. It's your child's problem, so help them solve it first. Talk it out.

How to Do It Right:
Work together to come up with several good plans of action, then give her the power to choose the path she's most confident following. "Your kid will feel like you've understood," says Joel Haber, Ph.D., author of Bullyproof Your Child for Life.
