Donatella Cooks Up Souffls on 'Today'

This past week was a very exciting week for me—my first cookbook Donatella Cooks became available nationally on April 13th. What better way to announce it to the world then on the Today show.

I love going on the Today show, because on live TV you never know what’s going to happen! It’s the fastest four minutes ever. While waiting for my segment, I got to spend some time with Al Roker and I gave him a copy of my book. He told me, “Enough with the judging (referring to Iron Chef America), you should have your own show!” He’s so sweet and looks better then ever. How everyone is so high energy at 6 am is beyond me.

In line with the Today show’s new cooking school format, my segment was all about teaching Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera how to make a Spinach Gruyere soufflé. (It’s one of the side dishes in my new book.) We picked this recipe because we wanted to show the world that soufflés are not that hard to make (even though they sound intimidating). We had a lot of fun, but as usual, ran out of time. We spent way too much time dusting those ramekins with Gruyere! At least they learned how to properly ”fold” in egg whites.
