Immigration Issues: Now for Kids, Too!

Thanks to The New York Times, we know that immigration is a hot topic of debate between Americans young and old, with today's younger generation largely battling with baby boomers for supporting Arizona's controversial law, which allows police to detain people they suspect of entering the country illegally.

Now, even 7-year-olds are voicing their opinion on the issue, and with this latest spoof that's sure to stir the melting pot, don't be surprised if your 3-year-old starts asking questions about immigration.

A doctored picture is making the rounds of the children's cartoon character Dora the Explorer in a mug shot with a black eye, battered lip and bloody nose. Her crime? She was arrested for "Illegal Border Crossing Resisting Arrest," the Associated Press reports.

The Huffington Post took the spoof, created for a contest for the fake news site FreakingNews.com, one step further and "reported" that Dora, along with her cousin Diego and pet monkey Boots, had been arrested in Phoenix.

Meanwhile, 7-year-olds are getting the opportunity to grill our first lady on the issue. While at an event at a Maryland elementary school, Michelle Obama was told by a 2nd-grade girl that "My mom…she says that Barack Obama is taking everybody away that doesn't have papers." To which the first lady said, "Yeah, well that's something that we have to work on right? To make sure that people can be here with the right kind of papers, right?" "But my mom doesn't have any," the little girl quietly replied. She looked so concerned we can't imagine that Mom later grounded her for ratting her out to the FLOTUS.

It all just goes to show that children truly are parrots of their parents, repeating not just the curse words we occasionally let slip, but also our ideologies we think they can't possibly comprehend.

Parrots, at least, until they grow up.
