Not in heels and pearls—but in layers of clothes so you can regulate your body temperature, which goes haywire during pregnancy. Sometimes you’re really hot—anywhere from a half to a whole degree warmer during the third trimester, according to perinatologist Theodore Peck, MD, author of Empowered Pregnancy: The 10 Most Important Things You Need to Know.

That’s because you’re getting a major workout supporting the baby even when you’re just sitting still. At the same time, you can easily get chilled, thanks to pregnancy hormones and your sweat glands in hyper-drive. The solution is to wear layers in natural, breathable cotton and fleece so you can heat up or cool down in a flash. Try long underwear in a soft moisture-wicking fabric, topped with fleece or wool and then a waterproof, windproof jacket. Make sure to buy a maternity jacket -- or one that fits around your growing belly! Don’t forget a hat, gloves and scarf.
