Drew Barrymore doesn't need to fit into a sample size to pose for fashion shoots! The actress, who appears on the cover of February's Good Housekeeping, told the magazine that she's being "kind of mellow" about losing the weight from her pregnancy with daughter Olive, three months.
Watch the behind-the-scenes video below!
"I'm still working on it, but I'm not worrying about it," Barrymore tells Good Housekeeping's reporter when the topic of baby weight came up. "We live in a society where everyone's like, 'Look at how amazing she looks two weeks out [from giving birth]. I don't want to be on that hamster wheel; that's hell."
Drew Barrymore, can we give you a hug? It's stars like Drew that are making it the new normal for Hollywood moms to take their time losing their pregnancy weight. Even better: she has no plans to pose in a bikini next to a recipe for her favorite weight-loss shake.
"I'm never going to have the kind of body that makes me excited about bikini season," says Barrymore. "I've never had a 'beach body.' But I want to feel like I'm showing up and doing my best. My goal is to be nice to myself, gentle toward myself, during this process. It's such a sacred time."
Drew is also trying to apply the lessons she's learned over years of weight fluctuations to her post-baby months. "It never makes me feel good when somebody who has an insane figure tells me, 'I eat whatever I want.' I'm like, 'Thank you so much for making me feel like crap,'" she admits. "I know if I eat whatever I want, I will not look amazing. So it's all about balance for me. But I don't want perfection; I don't actually believe in it. What I've learned along the way is, work with what you have; embrace what you've been given. Don't fight against it."
Lucky for the actress, she also has a partner in her weight-loss efforts: her husband Will Kopelman, who gained so much "sympathy weight" that she recently signed him up for SoulCycle classes! Even with a few extra pounds, she still thinks he's quite the catch.
"Last night, I was looking at my husband like, What if he weren't my husband and we hadn't just had a baby and we were just here with a group of people?" she says with a smile. "I was just having such a crush on him."
