How fitting is it that Drew Barrymore, one of our favorite actresses and someone who seems like such a girl's girl, now has a baby girl of her own? The star gave birth to daughter Olive Barrymore Kopelman on Wednesday.
We're swooning over the name she and husband Will Kopelman chose -- a perfect cross between hipster and granny chic that currently ranks number 416 on the Social Security Administration's list of popular baby names -- because it seems so, well, perfectly Drew. (Coincidentally, Olive is also the name that Isla Fisher -- another freespirited actress -- gave her daughter.)
There's a long line of granny names in Drew's family, including Dolores, Ethel, Helene, Louisa and Georgie, and that may be where the name inspiration came from. But maybe, just maybe, Drew looked to her own past when choosing the moniker -- after all, she did star as the voice of Olive, a Jack Russell Terrier, in Olive, the Other Reindeer, a performance that earned her an Emmy nomination and, perhaps more importantly, was one of the first films her production company, Flower Films, ever made.
Also cool: the fact that Olive's middle name is Barrymore. We love the nod to mama's heritage. And Drew itself is a family name (her great-great grandparents were John Drew and Louisa Lane Drew), so it's sweet that she's continuing the family-name tradition.
Congratulations Drew and Will, and welcome baby Olive!
