DVD Review: Pooh's Heffalump Halloween

Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween knows Halloween can be scary for little kids, so it puts conquering that fear front and center. It’s Lumpy’s first Halloween, and he’s nervous. (If you’ve never heard of Lumpy, that’s because he’s a Disney creation rather than a Milne character—a young heffalump first introduced in Pooh’s Heffalump Movie.)

The “older” Pooh friends tell young Roo and Lumpy the story of how Piglet was once too scared to trick-or-treat, narrating around an older Pooh cartoon as they tell the tale. Lumpy is reassured, but Tigger likes his Halloweens scary—so he shares the story of the “Gobloon,” a monstrous creature who grants wishes if captured but may turn the unsuspecting into “Jaggedy Lanterns.”

After Pooh eats all of their trick-or-treating loot, Roo and Lumpy set out to capture the Gobloon and wish for more. But when Roo becomes convinced that the Gobloon has captured Lumpy, he wishes for his friend back instead of candy. Sweet and just scary enough, Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween is an enthralling adventure for the kindergarten set.
