Fire Truck Rocket’s Blastoff, the latest DVD from the Little Einsteins, comes with one new episode and a new “interactive” feature. To my dismay, this turned out to involve interaction not with the characters but with a voice that asked questions throughout the episode, which were to be answered with the remote’s arrow buttons.
Amazingly, both of the 3-year-olds watching with me caught on to the buttons and were willing to take turns. However, they never mastered pointing the remote at the DVD player rather than the TV, so some of that “interactivity” ended up being with me—not really what I’m looking for when I pop in a DVD.
The new fire truck episode is on the exciting end for the Little Einsteins, with a dramatic monkey rescue, and was enjoyed by all—even our (unusually tolerant) 8-year-old. Overall, the Little Einsteins has proven to offer a true introduction to classical music, and we’ll keep it on as long as the kids will watch.
