E! Investigates 'The Bachelor'

It's nearly impossible to watch The Bachelor without wondering, "Are these people for real?" And "what aren't they showing us?"

So I can't help being intrigued by an E! special that promises "to reveal what viewers didn’t see – and how the lives of these contestants have changed since they rejoined the real world." In fact, the press release for The E! Entertainment Special: The Bachelor – Then & Now (E!, Wednesday, 10 p.m., ET) is truly enticing. It promises revelations from Andrew Firestone, Matt Grant, Deanna Pappas, Andy Baldwin, Bob Guiney, Jillian Harris, and Rozlyn Papa, among others.

And unlike this past Monday's 20/20 special, Stories Behind the Rose, this peak behind the curtain isn't courtesy of the show's own network. Presumably, E! doesn't have a vested interest in, say, keeping negative opinions under wraps.

The special will feature interviews from participants of each of The Bachelor's 14 seasons, plus commentary from exec producer Mike Fleiss, host Chris Harrison, and Reality Steve, the blogger who's been making a name for himself for years with his dead-on Bachelor spoilers. (No doubt ABC's 20/20 special would never offer this guy a microphone.)

Granted, Bachelor participants are probably required to sign statements of confidentiality, so even E! might not get much from them. But if the network that brought us the E! True Hollywood Story can't crack this vault of secrets, I'm not sure anyone can.
