Don’t necessarily rely on your doctor to identify your child’s need to be on a gluten-free diet, says Danna Korn, a leading expert on gluten-free diets and author of such titles as Gluten-Free Kids and Living Gluten-Free for Dummies. For instance, if your little one tests negative for celiac disease at age two, keep in mind that the disorder can manifest at any time -- he might go on to develop it by, say, age four or even later. Also, just because your child doesn’t have celiac disease, he might have a gluten sensitivity. Learn everything you can about these conditions so you can arm yourself with the information you need to be your child’s advocate.
