Having $100 million in the bank provides a person with a certain amount of flexibility: They can travel anywhere they want, not worry about running the air conditioning too much in the summer, bulldoze their $12 million mansion to put up their "dream home."
While the last item on that list might sound a bit drastic, that's exactly what Elin Nordegren -- a former Swedish model and the former Mrs. Tiger Woods -- did to the $12.3 Palm Beach, Fla., home she and her two children (Sam, 4, and Charlie, 2) have lived in since March 2010.
The Palm Beach Post broke the news, and has been kind enough to provide before-and-after pictures of Nordegren's vast oceanfront property. The "before" photo, taken last spring, depicts a sprawling two-story, 17,000-square-foot house with eight bathrooms, an in-ground pool and an elevator. The "after" picture, taken Jan. 5, shows a whole lot of, well, nothing.
According to the newspaper, Nordegren, 32, bought the house less than a year ago following her highly publicized divorce from golfing legend -- and serial womanizer -- Tiger Woods. (The $100 million she reportedly received in the divorce settlement probably came in handy with the down payment.)
And, although it looks to have been a beautiful abode, Nordegren clearly has her own ideas about her dream home. And so, Palm Beach County issued a demolition permit for the premises Dec. 16 -- and although it will remain active through June 17, there doesn't appear to be much left to demolish in the remaining five months.
Nordegren and her kids are reportedly living in an oceanfront condominum in nearby Juno Beach while their new house is being built.
