This bestie-ship first blossomed when DeGeneres first heard about the 2008 reality show Paris Hilton's My New BFF and pleaded to be Hilton's best friend forever:
In her Ellen appearance, Hilton played along (she had a new perfume to promote, Siren, and a new curling-iron-type product called The Celebrity Styler.) She's always had a knack for being a good sport when the joke's on her--perhaps because the joke always seems to be on her. She arrived bearing gifts like six-inch leopard-print wedges ("How do you know me so well?" gasped DeGeneres) and gave her new buddy a "glam" makeover. When Hilton admitted she and her boyfriend had split, DeGeneres pouted. "I thought you'd call me and talk to me about it," she said.
But true BFF-ship is cemented when friends go clubbing together--which the pair did, right after Hilton gave DeGeneres a tour of her mansion. (DeGeneres got to see the whole house, from a sitting room Hilton never actually sat in to a room she used for storing hundreds of shoes.)
DeGeneres insisted on driving them to the club in her dorky car. She played slow, cheesy songs. Then, at the club, she broke out a dance move that would best be described as tree branches whipping around in hurricane winds. Through it all, Hilton smiled and nodded, never letting on whether she was in on the joke. Which made it even funnier.
Hilton, of course, doesn't have the greatest track record with BFFs: She and her Simple Life sidekick Nicole Richie reportedly still aren't speaking, and according to eonline, she kicked My New BFF's season 1 winner (Brittany Flickinger) to the curb after the show ended. Time is running out for season 2's winner (Stephen Hampton), since Hilton has already confirmed that there will be a season 3. So, out with the old…and TTYN. (That's Paris-speak for "talk to you never.")
DeGeneres, on the other hand, will always have a special place in Hilton's heart. That is, as long as the celebutante has a perfume to sell.
