Love has a way of sneaking up on you sometimes.
Elton John was in the Ukraine this past weekend with his AIDS Foundation, performing for an orphanage, when he met and fell in love with a baby boy.
The singer, who had previously decided that children just weren't in his future – may have found the (little) person to change his mind.
"[Partner] David [Furnish] and I have always talked about adoption, the singer told Reuters. "David always wanted to adopt a child, and I always said ‘no’ because I am 62 and I think because of the traveling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn’t be fair for the child."
But meeting 14-month-old Lev, whose parents died of AIDS, may have the piano man reconsidering.
"Having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him," Elton said. "I don’t know how we do that but he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David's heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home. I’ve changed my mind today."
Elton's been in mourning since recently losing his keyboard player, Guy Babylon, to a heart attack – which has also contributed to his change of heart about adopting.
"Last week I lost one of my best friends," he said. "It broke my heart because he was such a genius and so young and has two wonderful children. What better opportunity to replace someone I lost than to replace him with someone I can give a future to."
What do you think? Could Elton's age and hectic lifestyle prevent him from giving a needy child a good home – or does it all come down to love?
