It's a very happy New Year for Elton John and David Furnish! The couple welcomed their second son, born via gestational surrogate, on January 11th. The new baby boy's name? Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John.
For starters: Wow, what a Biblical name! Religious monikers were one of 2012's hottest baby name trends, and they're clearly favored by the proud parents. Elijah is a Hebrew name meaning "God is Lord" and Joseph's source is a Hebrew name meaning "The Lord's addition (to the family)." Daniel comes from a Hebrew experession meaning, "My judge is God."
The couple is also following the common British tradition of giving their kids multiple middle names (their other son is Zachary Jackson Levon).
While we're not sure what inspired the names (there doesn't seem to be any obvious family connections on either side), we couldn't help but notice that baby Elijah's first two initials are "EJ" -- perhaps a nod to papa Elton? -- and his second middle name is Daniel, which just happens to be the title of one of John's biggest hit songs. (Big brother Zachary shares this naming formula: His second middle name, Levon, is also the title of an Elton John song.) We think it's a much better choice than Crocodile Rock!
