Shady's back, back again -- and this time, he's a little scarier.
The hip-hop artist Eminem (aka Slim Shady a.k.a. Marshall Mathers) is set to produce and star in a new 3D horror movie, Shady Talez. It's an "anthology film," meaning the movie will be made up of several short horror films -- and Mr. Mathers will play a different character in each one.
And it's funny, too! According to Slashfilm, the movie will give an "urban wink" to classic scare fare like Christine, Aliens and The Lost Boys. The only thing these films have in common (besides lots of good jump-in-your-seats moments) is that they were made in the '80s, so we're secretly hoping Shady Talez is an homage to '80s horror. Maybe some Nightmare on Elm Street or Poltergeist could be thrown into the mix? Ooo, how about The Shining? (Heeeeere's Shady!)
It's been seven years since Eminem starred in 8 Mile, based on the rapper's own pre-fame life in the streets of Detroit. That film won him critical praise and a Best Original Song Oscar for "Lose Yourself." Since then, he's limited his on-camera work to music videos, except for a cameo as himself in this summer's Funny People with Adam Sandler. Maybe that experience inspired him; Funny People director Judd Apatow told the press that Eminem was "a fantastic actor," and that the highlight of his directorial career was "pitching him new jokes to say and making him laugh really hard."
So he can make us laugh -- but can he make us afraid? If the creepy lyrics for "'97 Bonnie and Clyde" are any indication, then yes, yes he can.
