The Baby Girl Eminem Rapped About in 1999 Was Just Crowned Homecoming Queen (and Other Things That Make Us Feel Old)

The rapper's daughter is now 17! But realizing that baby is all grown up now isn't the only pop culture reference from the '90s that dates us

Remember how Eminem has a cute little daughter named Hailie? At the height of his fame, she was frequently mentioned in his songs, occasionally appeared on his records, and was at the center of a vicious custody battle with his ex-wife, Kim Scott. Critics of the rapper's lyrics loved to raise the question: "What effect will these words have on his daughter?" Well, now we can ask her. Because she's 17 years old.

On Friday, Marshall Mathers' little girl was crowned Homecoming Queen at her Michigan high school. Us Weekly reports that Eminem watched the ceremony from inside the high school, because he didn't want to take attention away from his daughter on her big day. "He opened the door and looked out like, 'That's my daughter!'" said one of the other parents. "He looked just like a proud father."

Hailie also appears to have her own Twitter account, under the name Angry Blonde. (Like father, like daughter!) She is literally growing up before our eyes.

So yes, we feel old now. Which is weird, because 1999 wasn't that long ago, right? Actually, now that we think about it, it was. Here are a few other pieces of 1999 pop culture to remind you just how much time has passed.

Madonna was collaborating with Austin Powers:

This was the biggest film of the year...

... but this one won all the Oscars.

This was an exciting new website.

Google existed, but when you wanted to find something, you were more likely to ask Jeeves.

These two got married, and their hair looked like this:
