Ah, young love. When Emma Stone was a young teenager, she fell hard for a special boy. Sadly, he broke her heart -- and the pain has stayed with her all these years.
"I was crawling on the floor. I remember throwing up," Stone, 23, tells director Cameron Crowe in September's Interview magazine.
"I have never felt anything quite like that," Stone, 23, says of her break-up, which happened when she was 14. "It was so visceral. It's like someone has killed you and you have to live through it and watch it happen . . . It was awful."
The actress' teenage heartbreak was memorable, yet it's not the defining moment in her life. In conversation with Crowe, Stone, who is happily dating her Amazing Spider-Man costar Andrew Garfield, reveals that there is another, more vivid incident that happened when she was six years old. And it's too personal to reveal in an interview.
"There is a moment that keeps coming back over and over throughout my life. It's the thing that I return to when I'm making a decision out of fear," she explains. "Anything that I'm doing out of fear is defined by that moment."
Though she remains cryptic about parts of her past, Stone talks at length about some of her close celebrity friends. She names Ryan Gosling, her costar in both Crazy, Stupid, Love and the upcoming Gangster Squad, as someone she felt an instant connection with.
"I only met him two years ago when we did Crazy, Stupid, Love, but it was like meeting a member of your team or something. I really like his brain," she says of the actor. "I immediately felt a kinship with him."
The actress also mentions her best friend Taylor Swift, and talks about how they have very different relationships with their fans.
"Taylor is a musician who does things under her own name and tells her own stories -- her songs and her albums are her. Whereas I'm playing characters, so that kind of authenticity of self in this job is a little bit different," Stone says. "A lot of times I feel like people come up to me because they think I'm like my character in Easy A, or because they've seen me in interviews, but really what they're a fan of is a movie or a character."
