Entertaining Essentials: What you need in your liquor cabinet

When serving alcohol to your guests, make sure you have all their tastes covered. So keep your favorite wines and beer on hand, then stock up on a variety of liquors to lift everyone's spirits during the holidays.

 All-purpose red wine (Pinot Noir works well with many foods)

 All-purpose white wine (Pinot Grigio is a crowd-pleaser)

 Sparkling wine (Champagne or anything bubbly)

 Tonic, club soda and seltzer

 Sodas for mixing, such as ginger ale and cola

 Juices for mixing, such as cranberry or grapefruit

 Beer

 Vodka

 Gin

 Rum

 Tequila

 Bourbon

 Single-malt scotch

 Tequila

 After dinner liqueurs, such as Irish cream or coffee liqueur (for example, Bailey's or Kahlua)

 

If you're going to play bartender and make some specialty cocktails, you'll probably need the following as well.

 Dry vermouth

 Sweet vermouth

 Bitters

 Sour mix

 Flavored liqueurs, such as orange or almond (for example, Triple Sec or Amaretto)
