The Motown Sound
Michael was the key to the Jackson 5's success. After winning a loyal following playing in local clubs and winning talent contests throughout the Midwest, the bellbottom-wearing group signed with Motown in 1969, and by 1970, had four number one hits, including "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There." Michael, the clear breakout star of the group, also recorded four solo albums for Motown, and scored hit singles with tunes like "Ben," "Rockin' Robin" and "Got to be There."
