The Moonwalker
The whole world already had Michael Jackson fever when the singer unveiled his iconic moonwalking performance on the March 25, 1983 TV special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever. 47 million viewers watched him gracefully dance his way across the stage—wearing his trademark white sequined glove—as critics compared his captivating performance to Elvis and The Beatles appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. "The moonwalk that he made famous is an apt metaphor for his dance style," wrote a New York Times reviewer. "How does he do it? As a technician, he is a great illusionist, a genuine mime. His ability to keep one leg straight as he glides while the other bends and seems to walk requires perfect timing."
