The Spirit

Why you should see it: Adapted by director Frank Miller from the Will Eisner comics, The Spirit is Denny Colt (Macht), a young cop who returns from the dead to dispense justice in Central City. His costume: a blue suit, red tie, fedora and small mask that covers his eyes. His main nemesis: The Octopus (Jackson), whose face was never seen in the comics but will be shown in the movie.
Box office bottom line: It's not The Dark Knight in terms of box office potential, but The Spirit is a comic book fan favorite, and one that comic lovers have wanted to see on the big screen for a long time. Having writer/director Miller—who earned a devoted fanbase with Sin City—at the helm should guarantee a large number of those moviegoers will catch The Spirit this holiday.
