We’re still swooning over U.S. figure skater Evan Lysacek’s graceful gold-winning performance at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The likeable athlete certainly makes you wish you could watch him perform regularly. Well, if he decides to join the cast of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, we plan on doing just that.
Lycasek, 24, has told EW.com in an exclusive interview that he would “love to try Dancing With the Stars” (perhaps inspired by a Twitter suggestion from two-time DWTS champ Cheryl Burke). He added that he was in the hit show's audience cheering for fellow skaters Kristi Yamaguchi and Apolo Anton Ohno as they hoofed it up on the dance floor (both won their respective seasons). “All I have heard from everyone that has done the show is what a blast it is,” said Lycasek. “That could be a good way for me to do something extremely challenging, but also fun to celebrate my Olympic win.”
So far, the rumored contestants for the next season of Dancing With the Stars include Pamela Anderson (many sources say her participation is a sure thing), Kate Gosselin (perhaps more of a longshot), and Kevin Federline (who may not qualify because of his past as a professional backup dancer). If Lycasek is indeed competing, the other contestants had better watch their backs -- ice skaters have a tendency to steal that mirrorball trophy!
According to ABC’s website, Tom Bergeron and Melissa Rycroft will announce this season’s new DWTS contestants during the season finale of ABC's The Bachelor on March 1.
