Exclusive Blog: The Healthy Habits of Giuliana & Bill Rancic

The iVillage Guest Editors share their secrets to staying mentally and physically fit

Giuliana: For my overall mental health, I try to take a few moments in the car while I am driving to work in the morning to meditate and clear my mind and think about all of the things I am thankful for in my life. It's so easy to get caught up with work and emails and life. Taking a few quiet minutes to reflect on the positive things in my life help prepare me mentally for my day.

Bill: I believe working out is good for the body and the mind. I like to get in some form of exercise every day. I feel better and think more clearly after a good workout. Lately I have been trying new types of exercise to keep from getting bored. I recently started running the stairs by my house and let me tell you -- it is harder than it looks. I also travel a lot, so if I am in an airport and have time between flights I just walk the airport for extra exercise instead of sitting down or eating airport food.

Giuliana: Bill and I try to work out together as much as possible. We recently added a home gym to our house and bought a few treadmills. We walk on the treadmills side by side and talk to each other; it’s a great way for us to spend healthy quality time together.

Bill: We have always been very health conscious and love to work out, and since Duke’s arrival, it has become even more important to us to make time to take care of ourselves. We love working out together as often as we can. It’s a great way to both challenge each other and connect. We love to put Duke in his jogger stroller and take him on a run with us. That way, we can work out without losing any precious moments with him.

Giuliana: Another tip is more beauty related, but I always wash my face before bed -- no matter what. I never sleep with makeup on.

Bill: A few other tips we live by are trying not to eat after 9 p.m. and drinking lots of water. Since we are always on the go, it is extra important to stay well-hydrated. Eating desserts is my downfall. If I start eating one cookie, before I know it the whole bag will be gone. So now, I try to eat dessert only on special occasions (which I limit to once a month).
