Feeding your baby a wide range of flavors and textures during the period between 9 months and 15 to 18 months has been shown to help prevent picky eating later on, says Dr. Shu. “Take advantage of this time to expose them to different cuisines,” she says, “you don’t have to stick to cereal and crackers.” Avoid seasoning with salt, she advises, but other spices -- including garlic and onion -- are just fine for tots.
