Trying to stay cool during the dog days of summer can become even more of a challenge when you're pregnant. How can you beat the heat without losing your cool?
1. Water, water, and more water. A cold soda might sound refreshing, but nothing quenches your thirst or rehydrates you as well as water. It's easy to become dehydrated without knowing it and remember, dehydration has been linked with premature labor. Make sure you are drinking eight glasses each day -- more if you will be outside or doing something strenuous.
2. Keep meals cool and light. Avoid hot, heavy meals. Large meals not only can make you feel quite uncomfortable, but while pregnant they can increase your metabolism and cause you to feel even steamier. You can stay more comfortable, and keep your blood sugar more even, eating light meals, more frequently.
3. Turn your bathroom into a spa. Pregnancy is the perfect time to pamper yourself! Fill your bathtub with tepid water and add your favorite scent or sprinkle rose petals on the water. Turn off all the lights, light a candle, turn on your favorite music and immerse yourself in the calming cool water.
4. Get naked! If you're worried about nosy neighbors or kids under foot, close the blinds and tell Dad that you're taking a mommy time-out. Lock the bedroom door, cover your bed with a silky sheet and add some plush pillows and spinkle it with scented talcum powder. Stretch out for an hour and relax your cares away.
