Former Bachelorette contestant Julien Hug was found dead in a remote area of the desert on Nov. 3, and now his family is revealing what really happened to the 35-year-old.
"He took his own life," Julien's father, Bertrand Hug told UsMagazine.com of his son.
Julien, who appeared on the fifth season of The Bachelorette and competed to win Jillian Harris' heart, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the coroner said.
"(He) planned this," his grieving father said. "He left a letter for me, his mom, co-workers, his girlfriend at the time. He wanted us to know it was his only way out."
According to his father, Julien was "a great guy" who "tried to make everyone feel good," but he was hurting on the inside. "He was depressed and struggling, and nobody knew," his dad said. "He couldn't find his way."
A public funeral service is planned for next Friday, Nov. 12, at a to-be-determined location. All are welcome, Bertrand said.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that well-wishers send donations to the Julien Hug Foundation, c/o of the The Village Community Presbyterian Church at 6225 Paseo Delicias, Rancho Sante Fe, Calif., 92067.
