Family Time Calendar: Family Dinner Night: Soup's On!

After the holidays -- when it can sometimes feel like all you do is see family and eat, eat, eat -- it's easy to slip out of the habit of having regular meals together. You and your spouse are back to regular work schedules; the kids are busy with school, play dates and activities; everyone's trying to watch their diets again; and dinner becomes catch-as-catch-can. But a Friday night supper (with attendance mandatory!) can help set your weekend off right. No need to get elaborate in the cooking -- a simple soup and fresh bread will do -- but take the time to set the table; turn off the computer, cell phones, PDAs and television; and agree to let the answering machine pick up calls to the house phone. Here's a menu that's easy enough to make that afternoon or the night before, and which can be warmed up and set out with little muss and fuss, so you can get to the important part -- being with each other.
