These adorable puffed-rice lollipops are a great alternative to the average Valentine's Day treat. Your kids might even want to give these out instead of Valentine's Day cards.
What you'll need:
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
10 ounces marshmallows
6 cups puffed rice
Heart-shaped cookie cutter (2- or 3-inch size)
12-24 lollipop sticks or Popsicle sticks (available at craft or cake supply stores)
Valentine's conversation hearts
Pink or red curling ribbon
What you'll do:
Melt butter or margarine in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in marshmallows. When the marshmallows have melted, remove them from the heat and stir in the cereal.
Spray your pan with cooking spray. Then spread the mixture into the pan using balled up pieces of wax paper to protect hands from the hot mixture.
When the mixture has thoroughly cooled, cut as many heart shapes out as possible. Feel free to nibble on any of the leftovers. Stick a conversation heart in the middle of each heart. Then, gently, gently, gently push the lollipop stick up the pointy end of the heart to turn it into a lollipop.
Wrap the lollies in plastic wrap and secure at the bottom with a piece of ribbon. Now that's cute, isn't it? (These are best eaten within two days of making, but we've never seen them last that long!)
