Some of the most fun games for kids don't involve expensive equipment, detailed rules or regulation fields. Consider the humble latex balloon, which is the inspiration for "balloon bust." This hopping-jumping-running game can be played with as few as two kids, up to any number of kids -- of any age!
What you'll need:
- Package of latex balloons
- Ball of butcher string
- Penny for each player
What you'll do:
- Blow up and knot balloons, one for each player. Cut a two-foot length of string for each player; attach one end to the balloon and the other to the player's ankle. (The dominant leg should be left free for stomping.) Set a boundary and a time limit for the game, hand each kid a penny, then let the stomping and popping begin! If a kid pops a balloon, he or she collects that player's penny and that player is "out." The winner is the kid who has the most pennies at the end of the game.
- If you'd prefer to avoid handing out pennies and setting a time limit, the winner can be the last kid with an unbroken balloon.
- A variation for kids who like to run: Turn the game into a race, setting a finish line at least 50 feet away. The first player to cross the finish line with an unbroken balloon is the winner.
