What's more relaxing than the simple art of daydreaming? This Friday, introduce your children to the "what if" game -- maybe after a decadent dinner of take-out pizza and ice cream?
Play thinking games with your children that require them to imagine problem situations in which you would need to weigh different sides of a question or decide on an action to take. Be as funny or serious as you want:
- If you had to be stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you?
- Mommy's in the bathroom and the doorbell rings. What do you do?
An added benefit of this activity is that it helps teach safety and family values to children. "What if" questions help children practice critical thinking, memory and problem solving.
