This evening, hit the pavement -- that of your neighborhood! Enjoy the start of fall's crisp evenings by taking an after-supper stroll all together. Take the time to observe different aspects of your neighborhood with your kids -- the trees that are starting to change and how people are decorating their houses if you live in the suburbs; store-fronts or street-side activities if you live in the city.
Talk about your day's and week's activities, or just stroll along, taking it all in. It's a great time to reconnect with your kids if they've been in school all week, and for you and your spouse to enjoy a moment walking hand in hand, too! If you are out early enough, find a nice vantage point to watch the sunset; if the moon is out, show your children how it appears to "follow" you as you go. (This, as you probably know, is an optical illusion -- but one kids enjoy!)
Remember to have everyone wear light-colored clothing, and bring a flashlight, as well, if you are walking on suburban or country roads.
