Family Time Calendar: Get Relaxed - iVillage

Even though many of us grew up in an era when drive-ins had long been closed down, they still haunt some of our summer psyches. If you're lucky enough to still have one operating near you, go to it! But if you're like the rest of us, here's how to create one in your own home or driveway.

What you'll need:

    Indoor version:
  • DVD or video of your choice
  • Ride-On Play vehicles
  • Popcorn and classic movie candy, such as Goobers, Sno-Caps, Raisinettes, etc.
    Outdoor version:
  • White or light-colored queen-sized flat sheet
  • DVD or video of your choice
  • Laptop with DVD player
  • Computer projector
  • Extension cords
  • Popcorn and classic movie candy, such as Goobers, Sno-Caps, Raisinettes, etc.

What you'll do:

To set up an indoor drive-in: Get video/DVD set up and read to play. Have kids "drive in" to the room in their play vehicles (have them pay admission with a kiss for Mom!). Serve popcorn and candy. Settle in on the couch yourself, and enjoy!

To set up a driveway drive-in: Hang the sheet in front of your garage door. Set up the laptop and projector so that the projector is focused on the sheet. Set up lawn chairs to watch from, or pile into the car (keep it turned off!) to watch. Serve popcorn and candy.
