Much to your kids' pleasure, they're expected to spit out their food in this counting game.
What you'll need:
- Watermelon cut into quarters and sliced (avoid the seedless variety that's very popular today)
- Paper plates
- Lots of napkins
What you'll do:
Give the kids a slice of watermelon each, and ask them how many seeds they think are in their slice. Write down everyone's best guesses, so they can see the numbers written out. Let the kids slurp their way through the watermelon and spit out the seeds as they go. (This might be a good time to teach them how to spit something out politely.) Once all the watermelon is eaten, help the kids count out their seeds, and see who the best guesser was.
This is an activity you might want to do outdoors -- near a sprinkler.
