- Write a brief verse for each month (your kids might have read Chicken Soup with Rice -- this is a nice model to follow, and one that will reflect a family feeling).
- Choose four to five major events that everyone agrees upon, and have the kids create illustrations for each; then Mom and Dad can write a brief description to go with it.
- Write the letter from the perspective of the family pet.
- If you choose to do a straightforward narrative, let the kids decorate the border of the letter (after you've printed the final copy) with small drawings and doodles. For best reproduction, have them use a black pen or marker, unless you are planning on having color copies made.
To finish, print the final letter (remember to proofread and spell check before hand!) and have everyone sign it! Then you can take the letter to your local print store and have copies made for mailing.
