While New Year's Eve celebrations are often "grown-up" events, New Year's Day offers a wonderful chance to celebrate as a family. What great things will happen to each of you? How tall will the kids get? Who'll lose (or get) a new tooth in the next 12 months? Start off this year by creating a book of hopes and predictions for your family -- it will be a lot more fun to review 365 days from now than those lists of resolutions!
What you'll need:
Large notebook or journal with blank pages
Pens or markers
What you'll do:
After breakfast or brunch, gather the family around the table, and measure and note each of the kids' heights. Label a set of pages for each family member. Record each child's height, and have them each predict how many inches they think they'll grow over the year. Have each of them write down (or record as they tell you) what they hope to do in the new year -- be it learn how to swim, get an A in math or make a new friend. Then have them put on their psychic hats and predict what will happen in their lives, in those of their friends and family or even in the world. Be sure to add your own!
