Items for your first aid kit:

- First aid manual, including basic CPR instruction
- Stretch bandage
- Adhesive bandages
- Sterile gauze
- Adhesive tape
- Cotton balls
- Antiseptic wipes/creams/solutions
- Burn ointment
- Petroleum jelly
- Antibiotic cream
- Hydrocortisone cream
- Calamine lotion
- Antihistamine cream such as Benadryl (children's version too, for bug bites)
- Large, square piece of material to make a basic sling
- Tweezers
- Sharp scissors
- Razor blade or knife
- Latex gloves
- Instant cold packs
- Prescription medications in childproof bottles
- Syrup of ipecac (talk with your doctor about use)
- Thermometer
- Acetaminophen and aspirin (never give aspirin to children under 12)
- Antacid
- Water bottle
- Saline solution for contact lens wearers
- Eye wash
- Moist towelettes/wipes
- Soap
- Insect repellent
- Sunscreen
- Small mirror
- A list of emergency phone numbers
- Medical history in case of emergency

Remember to keep the first aid kit out of reach of small children. Somewhere locked, like the trunk or glove compartment, is ideal.
