Fashion Democracy: Vote for Derek Lam's Designs on eBay

You can help choose next year's ready-to-wear collection

This year's mid-term elections may be in the rear view mirror. But there's another vote on the horizon. And it won't matter if your political color of choice is blue or red.

Designer Derek Lam recently announced his collaboration with eBay to produce a "crowd-sourced" collection, which will be sold exclusively on the e-commerce site. This means you, the shopper, will be able to vote for your favorite pieces, with the most popular making it into the final collection.

His original designs will be unveiled in February 2011 during New York Fashion Week, you'll then be able to vote and the chosen items will be available for purchase in spring and summer.

Known for his luxe, wearable looks, Lam's a fashion favorite of celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba and Anne Hathaway. But you won't have to be a Hollywood hotshot to afford these new ensembles. His consumer-chosen clothes will be offered at more accessible prices -- giving high style a dose of democracy!

Is a crowd-sourced collection a smart idea? Chime in now!
