chime in now"Grouping" is the style principle that makes these three pots of junipers and cypress on each side of the front door so interesting. The symmetrical layout and carefully trimmed topiary lend formality, while the variety of color, shape, texture, and height creates contrast to catch the eye. I've used Juniperus chinensis, an evergreen that's great for topiary; Cypressus arizonica, with a symmetrical pyramidal form of blue-gray foliage on compact branches; and New Blue Tamarix Juniper, or Juniperus Sabina, which has blue foliage and provides a nice complement to the other two conifers.
