Staying Fit With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia, a syndrome known for causing chronic pain anywhere in the body, effects more women than men and is seen in up to 5 percent of the population. Most physicians recommend physical activity as a way to help you manage your symptoms, keep your body strong and maintain your health. However, exercising with fibromyalgia can be a challenge.

Here, Judith Sherman-Wolin, certified fitness instructor, expert on fitness in women with fibromyalgia and author of Smart Girls Do Dumbbells and Muscle Your Way Through Menopause...and Beyond, outlines the best exercises for people living with fibromylagia. In addition, she reviews four women's specific problems caused by fibromylagia, and prescribes exercises that work around their problem areas.
