Twitter Feud! 'Fifty Shades' Producer vs. Writer Bret Easton Ellis

Writer Bret Easton Ellis has no trouble saying exactly what he thinks. The American Psycho author started a Twitter feud with the team behind the Fifty Shades of Grey movie by taking public issue with the their choice in screenwriter, Kelly Marcel.

Ellis, 48, it should be noted, had expressed an interest in adapting E.L. James' erotic novel. But despite "regretfully" announcing that he was taken out of contention in early August, he couldn't help but slam the ultimate choice to pen the much-anticipated film.

"Kelly Marcel?!? KELLY MARCEL?!? Kelly Marcel is WRITING the script for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'?!? THIS is the movie they want to make? ARGH," Ellis posted on Twitter last night.

And he didn't stop there. "Kelly Marcel: the creator of (gulp) 'Terra Nova' and a Mary Poppins bio-pic has been blessed by EL James and no one can stop her. Dear God," he continued on Oct. 8.

Of course, a 30-something female author is exactly what fans of the Twilight-inspired series should have expected, but apparently Ellis couldn't control his sour grapes. One producer of the Fifty Shades film decided to respond in a similar manner.

"@BretEastonEllis Really, Bret? The day you release that 'trailer'. School film? You're losing it...," producer Dana Brunetti twittered (and then deleted, E! News reports), referring to the teaser trailer for the Ellis-penned drama The Canyons, starring Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen.

Then Brunetti, 39, not-so-subtly started retweeting posts slamming The Canyons like,  "I love Brett Easton Ellis... I love Paul Schrader... THE CANYONS looks like the worst student film ever made," and "The canyons teaser could be the worst f--king thing I have ever seen. Smh."

Of course, Ellis' considerable fan-base retaliated against Brunetti, whose producing credits include the Oscar-winning The Social Network and Golden Globe-nominated Casino Jack.

"@DanaBrunetti and what's more funny is that you got fooled, because that's a teaser trailer, the fans have been asking for them," Ellis fan Shakira Khan wrote. "@DanaBrunetti fans loved it, but unfortunately Gawker hates it lol."

Brunetti's final tweet on the subject: "Apparently I've attacked @lindsaylohan. And now that I've @ her name I'm a media whore," Brunetti wrote.

One person remaining conspicuously silent -- chosen screenwriter Marcel, who only posted: "Beyond thrilled to be jumping aboard the 50 Shades train. Very exciting."

Don't expect any more on the Twitter swirl from the Fifty Shades camp, because Brunetti's last post on Twitter said: "Baby time," which means he'll be too busy becoming a father to further engage any Twitter feuds.
