First Time Wedding Guest
I'm still in high school, and I really don't know much about weddings and the things you should do. My close friend is getting married next spring -- am I supposed to get her a gift, other than the one I took to her engagement party? If so, any gift suggestions? I'm also supposed to help plan her bridal shower; any suggestions? I really don't know anything about this. Please help. Thanks! -- Z

Dear Z:
Yes, you're expected to bring a wedding gift (even if you've already given a shower or engagement gift). A good rule of thumb on what to spend is try to match the price tag to the amount of money you think your meal at the wedding will cost the bride and groom.
As for bridal showers, theme showers are popular, and they help guests narrow down what kind of gifts to bring. If your friend is your age, then it's likely she's never lived on her own before. So you might assign different guests different rooms in a house to bring gifts for (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc.). Or you could plan a lingerie shower, a cooking shower (where everyone brings their favorite recipe along with kitchen items), that sort of thing.
We hope this is helpful.
