The Fix: My Foundation Looks "Caked On" -- Help!

iVillage expert Lauren Luke offers foundation fixes to a fan

Q: First I want to say that I love watching your videos! I have a question that I was hoping you could answer for me. When I put foundation/powder on my face lately, it really looks caked on. I used to wear full makeup everyday (five years ago), and I never had this problem.

I am only 28, but I am not sure if it is age related, or if my body’s chemistry has changed since having my second child. I tried using Cover Girl’s Oil of Olay Primer, but I think that makes it look worse. Can you please help me?!? Hugz!

A: First of all thank you for your lovely words. They mean a lot to me.

I have the same problem with my skin where foundation looks great at first but then throughout the day it all cakes up. I sympathize with you. Well, what I do now is use an ultra-creamy moisturiser all over my face before my foundation. This will add an extra layer whilst keeping your dry skin smoothed down. Apply your foundation as normal and if you decide to use a blush, why not try a cream blush? There are lots on the market now and they apply great if you have skin on the dry side. You can also get translucent setting powder to keep your make up in place without adding more color.

I'd also suggest that you get yourself some vitamin E oil from any chemist and apply a little with a cotton ball to your face in the evenings. Not too much though or you will be writing next time asking how to soak up excess grease.

Hope all goes well, let me know?
