Welcome the annual time change and early darkness with this fun-in-the-dark way to practice writing and alphabet identification.
What you'll need:
- A dark room
- A flashlight
What you'll do:
With everyone lying down on the floor and looking up at the ceiling, trace a letter of the alphabet on the ceiling with the flashlight and see who can identify it. For younger children, you might want to go straight through the alphabet the first time, from A to Z, to get them used to seeing the letters in this new way. Then you can mix it up and keep them guessing!
If your kids are old enough, let them try writing the letters on the ceiling with the flashlight. This helps improve their gross motor skills (which don't actually involve their ability to spit and pick their nose... gross refers to the size of the muscles used in these skills).
