The flu: What you need to know to protect your family

Warning Signs

If your child experiences any of these symptoms, take the child to your pediatrician or to the emergency department right away:

  • Rapid or labored breathing, bluish skin color
  • Not drinking enough to stay properly hydrated
  • Not waking up; not interacting
  • Irritability to the point that he or she doesn't want to be held
  • Flu symptoms improve, but then the child becomes ill again with fever or a worse cough
