Sure, when Burger King sends a film crew around the world and calls it a "cultural exchange mission," you know it’s actually all about marketing, of course. Still, the resulting video is fun and actually pretty thought provoking after the burger giant dispatched its crew to remote places around the world—places where inhabitants don’t have TV, or access to restaurants—and let the locals try burgers for the first time.
On the face of it, it was a taste test between the Whopper and the Big Mac (spoiler: the Whopper clearly gets the most votes, though it is never proclaimed to be the winner). But the real interesting moments come from the folks’ discovery of the very fundamentals of the classic American dish. For instance, it’s instinctive for us to lift a burger between two hands and take a bite of all its layers at once. But that’s not obvious to people not previously exposed: Some peer under the bun, or lift it off entirely and bite into it alone.
