Fond Father's Day Memories Help Moms Plan for This Year

On Father's Day, dads are reminded of the life-shaping role that they play in their kids' lives. They are showered with praise and thoughtful words, and sometimes the luckiest of Dads even get a homemade card or a tie. But these days are not special for dads alone. In fact, Parent Soup recently asked moms to talk about their favorite Father's Day memories. The responses were colored by vivid memories and some heart-warming plans for this year’s Father's Day. Here's what four Soupers had to say:

• "I was about 10, and my oldest brother -- he was about 26 at the time -- came over to my parents' house. He took out a huge box of crayons and drew a long horizontal line across the kitchen wall about 10 feet high. Then he wrote with crayons "Happy Father's Day Dad!" in huge letters across the wall. I was shaking in my PJ's, worried about how mad my dad would be. It was early -- about 8am -- and Dad was still sleeping. Well, then my brother handed us younger kids the crayons and told us to go for it. So we did! We wrote and drew all over this one wall in the kitchen. It was a blast. But then Dad woke up. Shockingly, my strict father reacted in a way that could only be described as gleeful. He was smiling ear-to-ear. As it turns out, my brother and dad were knocking the wall down that day and beginning to renovate the kitchen. As for our plans this year, the kids and I have no intention of writing on the wall. But we'll certainly let my husband know how much we love him by planning a family barbecue, giving him plenty of gifts and spending the day together."
