Taylor Swift & The Civil Wars Safe & Sound Video from Hunger Games

Fresh off her two Grammy Award victories, Taylor Swift premiered the music video of "Safe & Sound," her ethereal lullaby with friends and fellow Grammy winners The Civil Wars for The Hunger Games soundtrack. The video debuted live on MTV at exactly 7:54 p.m Monday night.

Unlike the 22-year-old superstar's many crossover pop-country tunes, "Safe & Sound" is rooted firmly in the folk sound of The Civil Wars -- who must have impressed viewers with their 60-second introduction of Swift at the Grammys because sales of their single "Barton Hollow" soared the following day.

The music video is sparse, following Swift -- clad in a flowing white gown -- as she ambles through a deserted landscape. Inside a cabin, The Civil Wars (Joy Williams and John Paul White) harmonize with her as White plays the guitar in front of a fireplace. The melancholy, evocative tone of the song seems to match the mood of the movie's intense story.

Of course, Swift and The Civil Wars aren't the only A-list musicians to contribute a tune to the soundtrack for the highly anticipated film. Other artists featured on the Hunger Games' album include Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, Miranda Lambert, Kid Cudi and Academy Award winner Glen Hansard (Once). Swift also appears on the soundtrack with a solo, in addition to "Safe & Sound" with The Civil Wars.

The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23, with the soundtrack available earlier that week on March 20.

'The Lorax' Exclusive Featurette with Ed Helms

Get ready to see The Office star Ed Helms in a new light! The funnnyman plays the role of The Once-ler in the new animated film adaptation of the beloved children's book The Lorax. And in this iVillage exclusive clip, Helms offers a behind-the-scenes look at the movie (in theaters March 2) -- and explains what attracted him to the part.

"I remember reading the Dr. Seuss book The Lorax when I was much younger, and it became one of my all-time favorite books," he says. "The character of The Once-ler was always a bit of a mystery because you didn't get to see all of him in the book. And now here I am, playing The Once-ler in the new movie version of the classic story -- and it was really fun to see him in a much larger dimension."

Live Blog: Traveling With Michelle Obama

5:25 p.m. ET – Almost Home!

We just landed at Andrews Air Force Base, and once I get my bag, I’m headed to the train station. Three plus hours from now, I’ll be home. Yay! I’m writing up a few more posts with some final thoughts on this extraordinary experience – so I’m not completely done yet!

3:45 p.m. ET – Wheels Up! Homeward Bound!

After the five-city, four-state, three-day tour, we boarded the first lady’s plane and headed home. Mrs. Obama seemed as excited as the traveling press corps. After hugging some girls at Disneyworld, she told them, “I gotta go home, I gotta go see my girls.” Me too, Mrs. Obama. This is the longest I’ve been away from my little ones in a long time and I can’t wait to see them tonight!

2:40 p.m. ET – Run, Kick and Race!

After tennis, Mrs. Obama did some soccer drills and then took part in a relay race after which she doled out a ton of hugs. One girl excitedly said, “She shook my hand five times.”

2:30 p.m. ET – Tennis Anyone?

The first lady, who told us during the trip that she really likes playing tennis, took part in a practice game with some local children and tennis star James Blake. One of the funniest moments was watching Mrs. Obama make sure a young player didn’t whack her with his racket. She tried to explain to him to hit the ball softly, but he kept whacking away. Watch here as Mrs. Obama shows some impressive moves on the court.

2:20 p.m. ET – The First Lady Gets Down at Disney World!

Ever hear of “The Platypus Walk?” Neither did I. It’s a new dance inspired by the character Penny from the Disney Channel series Phineas and Ferb, according to the White House. Check out the first lady strutting her stuff here along with Platypus himself at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.

1:24 p.m. ET -- We're at Disney World!

We made it to the last stop of this three-day, five-city tour where the first lady will enjoy some tennis and soccer before heading back to her husband and Malia and Sasha.

12:40 p.m. ET -- The First Lady On the Role of the First Lady

The most fascinating question during the roundtable was the first lady's feelings about the role of the first lady. A reporter brought up an essay from the New Yorker about the disparity between the role of the first lady, with all its ceremonial duties, and the role of women in today's society. "That's a great question," said Mrs. Obama, who added that she has "spent a little time thinking about it."

"I do think there's an obligation on the part of the first lady, the first family, the president, to be aware of where the country is and sort of figure out how that position fits with where the country is," she told us. "And I think that every first lady, in their own way, has had to figure that out. And by doing that, I think they pushed the bar a little bit further. I feel like every first lady that has come before me has opened up the opportunity for me to be this first lady. And a lot of that means that I still have the choice. There's still the power that I do think I have a great sort of breath of opportunity or possibility of how to define this role, and I don't think earlier first ladies did. But I think that slowly, each year, each administration, it gets more broadly defined."

"But I still think that, ultimately, the role has to be defined by the individual," she said. "I mean, part of what I say to women, part of what we fought for is choice -- not just one definition of what it means to be a woman... We fought for the right to figure out what we need at any given point in time. And I think the first lady role is evolving in that way too."

But I did wonder whether she felt frustrated by the fact that the country doesn't seem to be ready or interested in a more powerful policy-making first lady.

Asked what would be a breaktrhough for the role, Mrs. Obama didn't miss a beat. "What would be a breakthrough? Having a man," she said to laughter. "That would be very interesting to see."

11:45 a.m. ET -- The First Lady Meets With Reporters!

We had our second roundtable with the first lady and once again, she talked about a range of issues -- the campaign, Let's Move and the role of the first lady.

On her role during campaign:

I asked her what role she plans to play on the campaign, if she wants to do anything different this time around and whether she's a secret weapon for her husband, as some have suggested. She brushed that notion off, but said she will do "whatever is needed." "We haven't yet really, fully sat down and talked about the strategy of where I'm going to go or what I'm going to do but I'm always open to whatever the folks who are running the campaign think I need to do," she said. That said, it's only going to be about three days a week. The other time, she said, she'll be devoted to Malia and Sasha, and continuing to support her chief issues, Let's Move and Joining Forces, which is focused on raising awareness of military families.

Running to motorcade. More quotes to come.

10:45 a.m. ET -- First-Ever Video Contest!

"I just want you to send me a video," the first lady announced during a speech at a megachurch in Florida, revealing a new video contest for Let's Move. Any community-based organization that wants to demonstrate how it's trying to make families and kids healthier can apply. "The funnier the better," said the first lady, noting she likes funny! And what do the winners get? They'll be invited to the White House, Mrs. Obama said.

10:36 a.m. ET -- First Lady Addresses Crowd of More than 3,000 at Northland, A Church Distributed in Longwood, Florida

Watching the first lady, it is hard to imagine she was once a reluctant campaigner, now she's a total pro who really seems to be connecting with this crowd.

Choice quotes from her speech:

"Once American Bandstand was over... We had to go out to play," she said, talking about how when we she was growing up, there were only a few TV channels.

"Some people come to church just for the fried chicken." (Crowd cracks up!)

Crowd loved this anecdote too: How one time she & her brother had some rare fast food -- a burger and fries -- but her grandmother opened a can of peas to add to their plates!

8:00 a.m. ET -- Press Check In!

No matter how much concealer I apply, I can't seem to get rid of those bags under my eyes! I'm off to check in for the last day of the trip -- and forgot to mention how we'll be having another roundtable with the first lady this morning so if you have a question for Mrs. Obama, send it my way. More soon!

6:30 a.m. ET -- Wake Up Call!

It's the final day of this extraordinary trip. First stop a church here in Orlando to showcase how churches and other faith-based organizations are trying to get families to live healthier lives. Then it's on to Disney World!

8:00 p.m. ET -- New Video! Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

The first lady has dinner with the Halls, a family outside of Orlando and they do the cooking! Can you imagine how nervous they must have been? The first lady's office said they were chosen because of the changes they made to their diet, mainly after Kern Halls, 37, learned from his doctor that if he didn't start taking better care of himself, he could be in trouble.

Watch as the first lady sits down for a dinner of lightly jerked chicken, zucchini, squash, brown rice and salad.

6:50 p.m. ET -- The Neighbors Know Who's Coming!

In this gated community, it seems the secret's out. There are several people standing on their lawns, taking pictures, hoping for a glimpse of the first lady. We head inside for what is called a spray of the event -- that means we can just take a few pictures and listen for a few minutes, and then we'll be escorted out so Michelle Obama can enjoy some private time with this family. After all, it's hard enough cooking for the first lady -- harder still trying to have a conversation with cameras capturing their every move!

6:20 p.m. ET -- Wheels Down Orlando!

The last city in this five city, three day national tour. I hoped to take some pictures upon arrival but couldn't find my phone. The fatigue is starting to show! We board the motorcade for the half hour drive outside of Orlando, where a family of four is awaiting the first lady. Wonder what the neighbors will say when the motorcade pulls up and the first lady steps out?

4:45 p.m. ET -- Michelle Obama Reassures Her Girls Before Campaign, Win Or Lose, They'll Be Great

Here's my post filled with so many great nuggets from the first lady on how she's preparing the girls for the campaign and getting ready herself.

4:34 p.m. ET -- Michelle Obama, WebMD Experts & YMCA Take Questions About Keeping Kids Healthy

Michelle Obama on keeping girls healthy on the road:

"When we're on the go, you have to make due with what's out there," she said. She let's the girls choose between a "fun lunch" (anything they want) and a healthy lunch when they are on the road.

On snacks:

"Dessert is that sometimes treat," the first lady said, revealing the girls only have dessert on weekends - even when they are traveling.

On healthy snacks:

The first lady likes peanut butter and apples or honey and apples before workouts.

On her workouts:

"The president and I work out every single day. We mix it up," she said, adding that they do everything from cardio to kickboxing to pilates and stretching. She and Malia like to play tennis, the president and Sasha like to play basketball. "I did a zumba class over vacation, which was a ton of fun," she added.

3:31 p.m. ET -- Hello, Florida

We just arrived at Homestead Air Reserve Base in Homestead, Florida and will heading momentarily to a local YMCA where the first lady will participate in a forum on Let's Move, sponsored by WebMD and the YMCA.

1:15 p.m. ET-- Wheels Up!

We are en route to Miami.

12:45 p.m. ET -- Motorcade to Airport and Heading to Florida

Three states down and one to go. We're headed to the first lady's plane and then off to Miami, Florida. Much more -- especially from the first lady's roundtable with us -- when we land!

12:15 p.m. ET -- Michelle Obama on coming campaign: "I am absolutely fired up."

We just wrapped up a really fascinating 39 minute roundtable with Michelle Obama. She was very forthcoming, talking candidly about preparing Malia and Sasha for the upcoming campaign, her role in the campaign and her journey on this the fifth anniversary of the day her husband announced his candidacy.

I am writing up a post chock full of great quotes and have tweeted a ton already (@kellywallacetv). Here are some highlights and I will send more when we land in Miami:

On preparing the girls for a nasty campaign:

"We still focus on their life," the first lady said. She said the main concern of the girls is "How's this going to affect my life?" She said they talk about "what if we win" and "what if we lose" and "try to play out both scenarios," letting them know their lives will be "great" no matter what. She said the girls are "excited" about the campaigning and like campaigning, especially because they get ice cream. She said Sasha said, "I love campaigning" and the first lady learned why. Some days during the campaign, they had ice cream four different times.

On her role during the campaign and whether she's pumped up for the campaign:

"I am absolutely fired up," she said, "but I have to have balance because I am a mother." She said when she's out there campaigning, "I am fired up but when I'm not, I have to be Malia and Sasha's mother." She said she's "incredibly excited" to talk about the president's accomplishments and repeated something she said she has said before, "Barack Obama is going to be one of our best presidents." She said, "I want him to be president for the next four years... But Malia and Sasha always have to come first."

On how the president said the thing he dislikes about the presidency is how his wife gets pulled into the "political realm:"

She said she's "getting better" about the criticism and talked about how they've made the second and third floors of the White House "home." "It's not political,' she said. "It's home."

11:25 a.m. ET -- And the Winner Is...

Drumroll please! Michelle Obama announces the winner of the tasty lunch competition that paired Dallas Cowboys players with local school kids.

9:54 a.m. ET -- Chefs in Schools

We take you behind-the-scenes of Michelle Obama's first event on the second day of her Let's Move national tour. Today the first lady teams up with past contestants of Bravo's Top Chef and members of the Dallas Cowboys to promote the "Chefs in Schools" program.

8:15 a.m. ET -- Press Check In

To give you some more of the behind-the-scenes, every bag needs to be checked before we can get into the motorcade for today's events. So at this moment, Secret Service agents are going through our luggage, laptops and handbags. Then it will be off to the first event of the day -- here in Dallas where former contestants of Bravo's Top Chef along with judge Tom Colicchio and the Dallas Cowboys join the first lady for an event highlighting the "Chefs in Schools" program, which is part of Let's Move.

The first lady does two interviews today -- with Tom Joyner and CNNi Report -- and then it's a roundtable with us!

8:00 a.m. ET -- New Video!

Check out this cool video shot and produced by the White House New Media team wrapping up Day #1 of the first lady's Let's Move 2nd anniversary tour.

7:00 a.m. ET -- Day #2 Begins!

When my alarm went off, I wondered, "Why did I go to bed so late?" Four hours of sleep is just not enough but that's par for the course on these White House trips. I stayed up preparing for our first roundtable interview with the first lady. I wanted to gather together all of your questions and mine before we meet Michelle Obama later this morning. We'll have 30 minutes and there will be five reporters -- correspondents from the Associated Press, Reuters, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and me. I'll update the blog and Twitter and Facebook once the interview wraps up. And remember if you have any questions, send them my way.

Now time to find some coffee!

9:00 p.m. ET -- Hotel Arrival!

Good night for day #1. Much more to come tomorrow.

8:00 p.m. ET -- Head to the Hotel!

As we headed to the press van, we saw plenty of people outside the Olive Garden hoping for a glimpse of the first lady. They got a quick look as she left the restaurant and headed for her SUV. We are now in a motorcade for our final trip of the night -- a one hour journey to our hotel in Dallas.

7:00 p.m. ET -- Arrival at Olive Garden!

There were tons of excited faces when we walked in because customers knew the first lady was inside! She was in a back room enjoying a conversation with mothers and fathers from the Ft. Worth area. Over a menu of venetian apricot chicken, seafood brodetto, capellini pomodora, salad and breadsticks, they talked for nearly an hour. We were at a nearby table and could hear most of the conversation. There were some really interesting nuggets.

"For me, this issue was personal because I was living it," Mrs. Obama said, describing her life before the White House, when her husband was always traveling and she was your typical working mom juggling the kids and their meals. She said having a conversation with every day parents was important to find out how Let's Move is working. "This is completely helpful for us to just check in" she said.

She talked about how kids -- including her own -- don't always think what their parents do is cool, but said it is a different story when they learn it themselves. She told a funny story about how Sasha came home from school raving about the tomatoes, calling them "hair something." Her mom told her they were called heirloom tomatoes and that they have them all the time at the White House but Sasha said, "No... these were different."

A mom talked about growing up with a "morbidly obese" mom and how she knew she wanted a different kind of life for her kids. This led the first lady to talk about how her father was active with her and her brother when he was younger, including teaching them to box, but that he couldn't be active with them when he was battling Multiple Sclerosis. She talked about how she and the president work out almost every day. "They need to see us working out," she said referring to Malia and Sasha. "We owe it to our kids."

She talked about how kids don't just run around and play anymore, and don't learn how to ride bikes. She told an amazing story about how Sasha and Malia had friends at Camp David and half of them didn't know how to ride a bike. They know how to play lacrosse, she said, but they don't know how to ride a bike.

She said every night at 6:30 p.m., she, the president and the girls have dinner together. If the president has a meeting, it ends at 6:30 p.m. so they can have dinner. She said they have the best conversations. Sam Kaas, the assistant White House chef who cooks dinner of the first family, said pretty much every night, without fail, they are having dinner together at 6:30 p.m.

She also talked about how juice used to be a big thing for the girls, especially Malia. "Malia would tell me, 'I love juice. I don't know what it is, Mom, but I just love juice," Mrs. Obama told the parents. "It's the sugar, honey," she added to laughter. So the first lady slowly started cutting back, and adding more and more water to the girls' juice. Each week she would add more water, she said, and then in just a few weeks, Malia drank some juice and for the first time ever said it was too sweet. "Your kids' palates aren't set in stone," she said.

We also learned the president is assistant coach of Sasha's basketball team. "He's an assistant coach, because you never know," she said to laughter. "Can't count on the president all the time."

As I watched the first lady, I kept thinking that she seemed like an every day mom concerned about her kids. If you didn't know she was the first lady, you would think she was another mom from the area talking with other moms like her.

6:00 p.m. ET -- Wheels Down Dallas!

We just landed in Dallas, stop #3 of the day, and are headed to an Olive Garden in Ft. Worth, where the first lady will talk to moms and dads about trying to keep their kids healthy. Interesting fact that I learned in the press van -- $1 of every $2 spent on food is spent in restaurants and one third of all calories consumed are consumed in restaurants. The reason for the Olive Garden choice is for Michelle Obama to salute the chain's owner, Darden, which has stepped up to make healthy changes to kids' meals and adult meals at their 1850 restaurants in the U.S. The changes to kids' menus include making fruits and vegetables the automatic side dish and no pictures or images of soda. For adults, Darden is committed to cutting 10 percent of sodium calories in food in 5 years and 20 percent in 10 years.

4:30 p.m. ET - Making Healthy Sexy

Michelle Obama just wrapped up her visit to Little Rock Air Force Base. We were lucky to capture some photos as she walked throughout the dining facility and greeted the men and women of the military. A quote of quotes was uttered by Brig. Gen. Eden Murrie, the director of Air Force Services at Little Rock Air Force Base. She told the first lady, "We are working hard to make healthy sexy."

Mrs. Obama praised the military for making its first changes to nutrition standards in 20 years. "It is a big day, it's huge," she said after saluting the men and women of the Air Force for eating their veggies. "You look good."

2:50 p.m. ET - Wheels Down in Little Rock

We just landed in Little Rock, stop #2 of the first lady's three-day, five-city tour for the second anniversary of Let's Move. This is the newsiest event of the day. As we reported earlier, here Mrs. Obama will announce the military is adopting new nutrition standards for the first time in 20 years. She'll also visit with men and women at Little Rock Air Force base and we are expecting to get some cool pictures when she does. More soon!

1: 34 p.m. ET - Wheels Up!

Back on the plane, this time en route to Little Rock, Arkansas.

1:14 p.m. ET - On the Move!

Whoa, forgot about the pace of a White House trip. We were just about to file stories when the White House Advance team said, "We've got to move." So we're on the move to the press vans awaiting Michelle Obama (who is doing an interview with "Access Hollywood") and then we'll head to stop #2 - Little Rock.

The highlight of the Des Moines stop was the first lady busting a move with more than 10,000 Iowans, doing a dance called "The Interlude." Michelle Obama clearly practiced. She knew the moves and seemed to have a blast. I wanted to strut my stuff too but I was shooting a video. Can't do both!

In her remarks, Michelle Obama said President Obama works out almost every day, which made me think to myself, "If the president can work out every day, why can't I?" She also saluted Iowa, which is trying to become the healthiest state in the nation by 2016. "We want every single state...to do exactly what Iowa is doing," she said, before a birthday party for Let's Move, complete with the Happy Birthday song, a cake, confetti and balloons. Fun!

White House aides just got in the van and when I said to them the first lady clearly practiced, they said she didn't. They said she did see the dance before and that it didn't seem too complicated. While I was focused on the first lady, my press colleagues said they took note of Iowa Governor Terry Branstad getting down. I am going to have to take another look at the video to see for myself!

We're on the way to the plane now. Another update soon! And keep the questions coming. Our first roundtable interview with the first lady is tomorrow!

11:30 a.m. ET - Des Moines!

We just landed in a very brisk Des Moines! The first lady did a quick meet and greet at the airport and we boarded the press van. Sam Kaas, assistant White House chef and senior policy adviser for the Healthy Foods Initiative, said the number of kids at this arena will actually be 14,000. They're from 45 schools in the Des Moines area and they'll all be doing a dance popular at games in northern Iowa. Iowa was 19th in the nation in 2010 according to a healthy index. The state is aiming to be the healthiest in the nation by 2016. The Iowa Governor is declaring this Let's Move Day. We are waiting now for athletes to speak including figure skating champ Michelle Kwan.

"This needs to be fun," said Kaas. "If we really want to embrace this, it has to be fun. If all states had initiatives like this (the one in Iowa), we'd really be in great shape."

8:45 a.m. ET - Wheels Up!

We're off to our first stop on this three day tour -- Des Moines, Iowa, where the first lady will highlight Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative, which is a partnership between the government and the private sector to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation in 2016. More than 10,000 school kids from Iowa schools will be on hand for what is being billed as a "high-energy, interactive celebration" for the second anniversary of Let's Move. Some big names will be in attendance including Nascar racing champ Carl Edwards, Olympic figure skating champion Michelle Kwan, who is one of my all time favorites and Olympic champion gymnast Shawn Johnson. More from Des Moines.

8:40 a.m. ET - First Lady Arrives!

Michelle Obama arrived in an SUV. I couldn't see her from my vantage point on the plane but she is on board and we'll get our first glimpse of her when we land in Des Moines.

8:15 a.m. ET - Security Sweep and Off to the Plane!

Just finished security sweep where Secret Service agents check our gear, luggage and laptops. We then took a small bus to the plane. On board are Mrs. Obama's aides, Secret Service agents and the press. We are seated in the very back of the plane. Everything on the plane is off-the-record, which means we can't report on what happens or take photos or video -- unless the first lady's aides announce that something is on-the-record and open to coverage.

7:15 a.m. ET - Early bird!

Arrived a few minutes early at Andrews Air Force Base, which is in Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C. Awaiting the press shuttle that will take us to the first lady's plane. There will be eight people in all who are part of what the White House calls a travel pool. The group includes three photographers and five reporters -- correspondents with The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the Associated Press, Reuters and me! Go iVillage!

6:00 a.m. ET – News! New Military Nutrition Campaign!

Out of bed and ready for day #1 and we already have news! We’ve learned first lady Michelle Obama, during a stop in Little Rock, Arkansas later this afternoon, is expected to announce that the U.S. military is making changes to its nutrition standards for the first time in 20 years. The new changes will mean men and women in the military will find more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and entrees that are lower in fat at the 1100 dining facilities for service members. “The Department of Defense is making a groundbreaking commitment to the health of our troops and their families, “ Mrs. Obama is expected to say during her visit to Little Rock Air Force Base. “And in doing so, they’re not just sending a powerful message throughout the military community, they’re sending a message to the entire country.”

As part of this new obesity and nutrition awareness campaign, the Defense Department will also ensure healthier food is available at Department of Defense schools, and at other places where military members and their families buy food on base, such as vending machines and snack bars.

Now time to get dressed (what to wear!) and then off to Andrews Air Force Base for press check-in at 7:30 a.m. ET. Remember we want to hear what questions you have for Michelle Obama. What would you ask if you could? Chime in below and we’ll try to ask during the trip.

Producers Didn't Want Any 'Twilight' Actors for 'The Hunger Games'

At least one Twilight actor was hoping to jump from one teen-targeted movie franchise to another. Kellan Lutz wanted the role of Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games, but he never even got a chance to wow the producers and director Gary Ross with his acting chops.

A source tells Us Weekly that the 26-year-old actor best known for playing Emmett Cullen was "desperate" to land the pivotal role of Katniss Everdeen's best friend and potential love interest.

Unfortunately for the six-pack-sporting heartthrob, the "producers told him they didn't want anyone from Twilight." And as we all know, the role went to Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth, 22, who will share the screen with costars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.

Instead, Lutz will star in another page-to-screen adaptation, Syrup, costarring Amber Heard, Brittany Snow and Kirstie Alley. The comedy is based on Maxx Barry's scathingly funny novel about a slacker who comes up with a new soda to market to young hipsters.

And if it's any consolation to Lutz, a Lionsgate rep told Us that the studio is fond of him. "Kellan didn't audition," a Lionsgate rep tells Us, "but we think he's talented."

The Hunger Games opens March 23.

On the Plane With Michelle Obama and Kelly Wallace

Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. That’s what I’ve been telling myself over the past 24 hours as I tried to cross off the million things on my “To Do” list to prepare for an amazing opportunity. I’m traveling around the country with First Lady Michelle Obama during her three day nationwide tour celebrating the second anniversary of her Let’s Move initiative combating childhood obesity. I’m one of only five reporters on the trip and the only digital reporter on the plane -- the Associated Press, Reuters, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and iVillage! How cool is that! Really cool but also stressful.

First, what do I pack? I haven’t done a White House trip in a good number of years now and so I’m out of packing practice. Plus, it’s the Fashionista in Chief. Michelle Obama always looks great so shouldn’t we reporters try to look good too? I packed a few of my favorite dresses – all bargains from Loehmann’s – and hope the First Lady takes notice. Had I had a chance to get to Target, a Jason Wu for Target would have been perfect!

Since I’ll be live blogging, tweeting, vlogging and whatever else I can do in addition to writing stories, I needed some gear. The new iPhone 4S with the better camera for pictures and videos? Check. An aircard so I can be plugged in at all times? Check. Tape recorder? Ugh, totally forgot that so on my mad dash to the train, I stopped at Radio Shack to pick up an old school tape recorder. Since I still haven’t mastered the digital tape recorder I have at home, I figured let’s go with what I know.

Now I’m reading through the research about what’s been accomplished in the two years of Let’s Move (a new law providing low-income children with more access to healthy food, a goal of 6,000 salad bars in schools over three years, getting one million kids to earn the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award to name just a few), some of the challenges ahead (how in 2009–2010, 16.9% of U.S. children and adolescents were obese) and how the First Lady has been pretty much everywhere lately – from revealing how President Obama sings to her all the time on The Tonight Show to doing push ups with Ellen to that hilarious exercise face-off with Jimmy Fallon at the White House. Guess who won?

This got me thinking. I hope the First Lady doesn’t challenge any of us to an exercise competition. What would Mrs. Obama think when I tell her I haven’t exercised since my first daughter was born nearly six years ago? I packed some yoga pants and a T-shirt just in case.

Our itinerary is as follows – and yes, I already mapped it out for my girls at home so they can follow along:

Thursday

Des Moines with record breaking athletes such as Michelle Kwan, one of my favorites in figure skating, Little Rock for an event on how the military is improving nutrition for service members and then an Olive Garden in Dallas with parents who are changing their habits in their homes and their communities.

Friday

Contestants from past seasons of Bravo’s Top Chef join members of the Dallas Cowboys to show how schools and chefs are working together, then on to Homestead, Florida for a WebMD Town Hall and then to Orlando for dinner with one family that has made changes to become healthier.

Saturday

The final day begins with an event showcasing how faith and community groups are supporting healthy lifestyles and then it’s off to Disneyworld (yay!) to ESPN’s Wide World of Sports for a physical fitness event with local kids and their families. (I promised my kids I'd be on a scouting mission in advance of our spring break trek to Disneyworld.)

Your Questions!

During the trip, we may have some chances to ask Michelle Obama questions and that’s where you come in. What would you like to know? What is the one question you would ask Michelle Obama if you could? Chime in below or send your questions to us on Twitter and Facebook and use the hashtag #kellyonaplane if you can. Yes, we're having some fun with this!

I remember the roundtable I, and eight other reporters from women's sites, were lucky to attend with the Mrs. Obama in October. When a reporter asked her about Malia and Sasha’s viewing habits, she mentioned how the president doesn't love that the girls watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians. That nugget went viral, much to my chagrin since I’m no fan of the Kardashians. So will we have another Kardashian moment on this trip?

Let us know what you’d like to ask and follow along. I’ll try to take you behind-the-scenes as much as I can every minute I'm awake!

Felicity Huffman on Family Dinner Bonding

In her first blog for the iVillage blog series CelebVillage, actress and mom Felicity Huffman writes about about how sharing family dinners with actor husband William H. Macy and daughters Sophia, 11, and Georgia, 9 (pictured below looking at the camera) has "relieved me of carrying around old baggage from the past."

Before our daughters were born, my husband and I were used to a nomadic, gypsy lifestyle. We were always traveling for work or if we were in the same city at the same time, we would be on different schedules. I remember one morning when Bill woke me up at 5 a.m. because I had an early set call. He had been shooting all night and was just going to bed. He had a cup of coffee in one hand for me and a glass of scotch in the other hand for himself.

But when our first child was born, something changed in him. No more sitting at the kitchen counter drinking beer and eating day-old Chinese food. He wanted family dinners, a proper sitdown family dinner. He had his family history and I had mine. The lack of family unity had created a vacuum in his life, but it had created an aversion in mine. I hated family dinners. They were something to be endured growing up: the boring conversations, my mother overwhelmed and grumpy, my father just sitting there and not helping, my sisters always on some weird diet and not being able to eat the food. I found them depressing. And now with a new baby in the house they felt like more than I could take.

Now I have to admit, I think I was a little depressed anyway after my daughter was born. There were many episodes of me standing in the shower sobbing hysterically while my husband stood outside the glass door holding the baby, telling me everything was going to be alright and would I please now get out of the shower. That passed, thankfully, but not Bill’s desire to start having family dinners. So, dutifully, like taking medicine that tastes awful, we started having FAMILY DINNERS. I don’t know why they filled me with existential despair, but they did. I knew they were supposed to be good for you. They give your children a firm foundation, a sense of safety, and supposedly do all sorts of wonderful things like keep them off drugs, raise their test scores and help them avoid teen pregnancy.

So, we established the Macy/Huffman or the Muffman (as we call ourselves) family dinner. When the children were little we endured the unappetizing toddler food -- plain broccoli, fish sticks, pasta or whatever we could find the time to cook. Even when the dinners lasted 15 minutes (because that is about how long a toddler can sit), we stuck to the ritual because it takes commitment.

I found that over the years family dinners did give us what was promised: Rituals remind us of what is important and provide a sense of stability and continuity in our lives. It gives our family a solid meeting ground every night; the structure does give a sense of safety and unity.

Here is what I didn’t expect: They are actually, truly, surprisingly fun. Not like medicine at all. Wonderful watershed events have happened at our family table. When our youngest was two, she finally said her sister’s name out loud for the first time, which made her sister do a dance of joy around our kitchen. When our oldest was nine, she suddenly threw her arms in the air and shouted, “I can’t wait to grow boobs and get my period!” Bill fell off his chair.

I have actually learned to cook a little and enjoy it. I am now in love with writers of cookbooks and not just writers of novels. I have a crush on Jamie Oliver and feel like Gwyneth Paltrow is a personal friend. I want to write them a thank-you note when a recipe works out. I found Laurie David’s cookbook The Family Dinner to be a lifeline. I love it! It’s not only filled with great recipes, it’s got wonderful ideas for dinnertime conversations and inventive ways to get your kids talking and the whole family to start sharing ideas, dreams or just silliness. We go around the table and take turns saying what our happiest moment of the day was, or we play “high/low” or I get to learn about everyone’s day and I practice just listening, which I hope will come in handy when my girls are teenagers.

I love dinnertime now. We have created our own family ritual and it has relieved me of carrying around old baggage from the past. I don’t know if it will keep my daughters off drugs, or give them the backbone to stand up to pushy boyfriends, or raise their test scores, but in shooting for a long-term benefit I have gained a short-term blessing. At least four nights a week, my family sits down together, says a prayer of gratitude, and enjoys each other’s company.

Now if anyone has an idea on how to get the kids to do the dishes, I’ll make you dinner and you can tell me the happiest moment of your day.

Jimmy Fallon Races First Lady Michelle Obama

In an effort to promote first lady Michelle Obama's national Let's Move! campaign to get kids more physically active, Jimmy Fallon took her up on an offer to "make a complete fool" of herself for the cause.

In the Feb. 7 episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, the late-night funnyman, 37, explains how a comment Obama made at a press conference made him think she would welcome a visit from him.

"I'm willing to make a complete fool out of myself to get our kids moving," Obama said in a statement Fallon showed the audience.

Apparently, that was all the encouragement Fallon needed to make a trip down to Washington D.C. to help the first lady. In a pre-recorded segment, Fallon is shown walking in the White House ready to see Mrs. Obama...if he can get past security.

"Sir, this is a restricted area, I've told you before," a security officer tells Fallon, who holds up a not-quite official looking badge. "Right. That's your NBC employee ID taped to a Dave & Buster's gift card."

"It's OK Harry, he's with me," Obama shows up, rescuing Jimmy. "Thanks so much for coming... to raise awareness for the Let's Move initiative. Are you ready for a little competition?"

Then the fun part begins. At first Fallon dons an old-school spandex unitard that the first lady nixes right away. "No way, Jimmy" she tells him.

After he's properly dressed, Fallon and Obama go toe-to-toe in a series of schoolyard competitions, from push-ups and tug of war to dodgeball and hula-hooping. With the score tied, the two enter the final competition: a potato sack race.

"Good luck. You're gonna need it!" Michelle taunts. With the Chariots of Fire theme playing in the background, Jimmy gives it his all against the impressively fit first lady. Watch the video below to see who won!

Beyonce Steps Out For the First Time Since Giving Birth

New mom Beyonce has recoverd from giving birth -- and she's ready to show off her post-baby body! The singer looked gorgeous Monday night, making her first public appearance since welcoming baby Blue Ivy on Jan. 7. She stepped out to support her husband Jay-Z, who performed two shows at Carnegie Hall to benefit the United Way of New York City and his own Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.

Only one month postpartum, Beyonce was a lady in red, wearing a curve-hugging long-sleeved Alice Temperly dress accessorized with an Alexander McQueen clutch and platform Christian Louboutin heels.

The singer, 30, has kept a low profile since she had the baby and had given no interviews and made no public appearances until Monday night -- except for releasing a statement after Etta James died on Jan. 20.

"This is a huge loss. Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time. I am so fortunate to have met such a queen. Her musical contributions will last a lifetime," Beyonce wrote on her website.

Now that Bey has stepped back into the limelight, it should only be a matter of time before she and newborn Blue start popping up around their New York City stomping grounds. And we can't wait to see the real first pictures of their bundle of joy. (As opposed to these fake-but-hilarious shots that pal 50 Cent posted on Twitter!)

Taylor Swift Tries to Beatbox in New Grammys Promo with LL Cool J

Taylor Swift is a talented crossover artist who appeals to fans of several genres, but it sounds like she may have officially closed the door on ever releasing an old-school rap album.

In the newest promo for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, multiple-nominee Swift hangs out with host LL Cool J, who starts beatboxing to Taylor's name. Swift bops her head feeling the rhythm, but then unexpectedly jumps in her with her own unique brand of beatboxing.

To his credit, LL looks amused but doesn't stop beatboxing. And while Swift, 22, tries her hardest to mimic his sounds, she seems to realize that she looks more than a bit silly. At the end of the promo the two burst into giggles, as LL says, "I love it! Oh my God!"

Check out the promo below:

The Grammys, which air Sunday, Feb. 12, will feature Swift presenting and singing (but hopefully not beatboxing). An awards-show fixture, the country-pop diva joins fellow musicians Nicki Minaj, Kelly Clarkson, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Rihanna and the just-announced Bruce Springsteen (who will hopefully tribute his late good friend Clarence Clemmons) as the show's performers.

What do you think of Swift's attempt to beatbox with LL?

New 'Hunger Games' Trailer Is Released

And on the 50th day until The Hunger Games, Lionsgate gave to fans a brand-new theatrical trailer!

The 70-second trailer gives a clearer look at Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) during her interview with Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci) before the Games begin.

Dressed in a gorgeous red dress designed by her stylist Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Katniss explains to Ceasar (think Ryan Seacrest meets Barbara Walters with a futuristic makeover) what she tells her younger sister Prim after taking her place as District 12's tribute to the Games.

"I told her I would try to win for her," Katniss tells Flickerman, who always knows how to get a good quote from the Tributes before they set off to kill each other in the annual battle-to-the-death competition.

But the trailer opens with another key scene: Katniss giving Prim the Mockingjay pin as a token of good luck -- a change from the book, in which the pin is a gift to Katniss to take to the Games from her classmate and friend.

Although it's barely over a minute long, the trailer could possibly make fans cry, like during the fraught conversation between Katniss and Gale as they have their brief goodbye before she's whisked away.

"Take care of them, Gale," Katniss weepily tells her best friend. "Whatever you do, don't let them starve."

The Hunger Games comes out at midnight March 23, 2012.

Watch the trailer below!

Jennifer Lawrence is less than 50 days away from debuting as teen-lit heroine Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. But she nearly didn't take the life-changing role. Despite beating out fellow award-winning actresses such as Hailee Steinfeld, Saoirse Ronan and Shailene Woodley for the much-coveted part, Lawrence waited three whole days before responding to her offer.

"It was the middle of the night in England, and I was in bed when I got the call," Lawrence, 21, tells The Hollywood Reporter. "And I was so in love with the books and the script, and suddenly it was right in my face -- and the size of the decision was terrifying."

Having just been nominated for an Academy Award, the Winter's Bone star wasn't sure she could tackle such a beloved role in a movie with such high expectations. So Lawrence did what most 20-year-olds would do -- she called her mother for advice. Her mom called her a "hypocrite" for even considering turning down the part.

"When I was doing indie movies and everyone was asking why I didn't do studio movies, I said, 'The size of the movie doesn't matter.' And she said, 'Here's a movie you love and you were thinking of turning it down because of its size,'" Lawrence recalls.

"I thought, 'I don't want to miss out because I'm scared. Me being scared, I never want that to stop me from doing something.' But I knew in my heart that I wanted it -- it was about working out all the fears."

Despite the popularity of Suzanne Collins' trilogy, Lawrence isn't exactly earning a Kristen Stewart or Emma Watson-level paycheck for the first installment. She's making a reported $500,000 for The Hunger Games, with a bonus based on the movie's box-office success.

Of course, since Lawrence and her costars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth are contracted for up to four films, chances are good all three of them will be multi-millionaires by the time Mockingjay Part 2 rolls around.

Lawrence must be glad she took her mama's advice!

J.R. Martinez: My Daughter Won't Be Named a Food, Car or Place

Martinez and Diana Gonzalez-Jones are expecting their first baby in May, and they want everyone to know that they don't plan on picking a trendy name just for the sake of being unique.

"We won't name her Apple Cider or Salami," Martinez, 28, told People at the SAG Awards. "It won't be our favorite dish or our favorite getaway or favorite car or show."

That means celebrity baby names like Apple, Brooklyn, Moroccan or Bear are probably off the table for the Dancing with the Stars champion and his partner. So what kind of names are on their short list?

"It will be something really close and personal to us that feels like we're giving something to her that is very special," he says.

Plus, he adds, they don't plan to name the baby until after they've actually met her. Once they've held their newborn to officially decide.

"She'll probably come out and we'll be like, 'That's the name,'" Martinez says. "We have narrowed it down to two names and we agree on it, which is good. I hear that traditionally, when it comes to the name picking, that's when the disagreements occur. But I think it will be a nice flow."

Jenna Fischer Admits She's Hanging On to Her Baby Weight

While many celebrity mamas are hailed for returning to their pre-pregnancy size within weeks of their births, actress Jenna Fischer admits she's having trouble losing the baby weight.

Fischer, 37, gave birth to son Weston Lee on Sept. 24, and four months later, The Office star says she still hasn't returned to her pre-baby figure.

"Let me please stand in solidarity with all of the women who are not a size 2 six weeks after leaving the hospital," she told Us Weekly at the SAG Awards. "I thought, you read all of the stuff in magazines like, 'Oh, I breastfed my baby and I am so skinny now.' I am breastfeeding my baby, and I am not getting any skinnier!"

But the comedic actress, who's married to screenwriter Lee Kirk, is not overly concerned with her extra curves.

"I think I'm just going to be a little bit bigger for a little bit longer," Fischer said. "And that's fine with me."

Walking the red carpet in a blue Max Azria Atelier gown that accentuated all the right curves, Fischer had nothing but love for her dress: "It made me look the smallest I could possibly look right now after just having had a baby," she told Us.

Extra pounds aside, Fischer says she loves motherhood.

"I love being a family. I love going from two people to three people, and it has deepened the bond between me and my husband," she said. "We love being together, the three of us. Our little unit."

Katherine Heigl on Raising Her Daughter to Know Her Worth

In her blog for the iVillage blog series CelebVillage, actress Katherine Heigl writes about about the importance of helping her 3-year-old daughter Naleigh live up to her potential in life.

I’m not much of a reality TV watcher. I tend to stick mostly to the comedies and dramas that I love, but I recently happened to catch an episode of Dance Moms and watched with open-mouthed amazement as girls as young as seven were encouraged to dress provocatively and shimmy around a stage doing a dance performance that could just as easily been a burlesque routine. I kept thinking all these girls were missing is a pole! I was also horrified by the way their instructor spoke to them when she felt they weren’t up to snuff. It was demeaning, belittling, and downright unkind.

My daughter was in the room at the time as was my mother and I kept looking over at my perfect, innocent and beautiful child wondering how can I protect her from what the world is becoming. My mother was outraged and -- never one to hold back an opinion -- vented that it was not even remotely necessary to speak to a child the way the dance instructor was, that no one during the course of my performing and early years as a child model and actor had ever talked to me like that. She insisted that the tough-love attitude was totally misguided and not what makes anyone succeed -- and certainly not a child. She reminded me that I was loved, encouraged, and held through the journey of my career and was never demeaned, berated, or told I was not doing my best and look how well that has worked for me.

She is right, of course. My mother worked hard to build up my self-esteem, to protect it from those who did not, and made it her priority to see me grow into a young woman who had a sure and steady sense of herself that could not be torn apart. The example my mother set for me is what I hope to achieve and emulate on behalf of my own daughter. I think we all know through experience that the world gets tough enough soon enough. I strongly believe there is no reason to break anyone down in order to prepare them for inevitable disappointment or unkindness. There is no reason to diminish anyone’s self-esteem in order to get them to try harder next time. Especially not a child’s.

I believe a significant part of my role as a mother to a daughter is to shelter and build up her self-esteem. This is not to say that I will sit around and tell her she can do anything and everything and is perfect in all that she does. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and when I came home from school with a bad grade on another math test, it was apparent that algebra would never be my strong suit and my mother didn’t pretend it was. I was told I needed to pass the class but I was also told it was okay that I didn’t excel at it, that there were other things I was good at. That’s the direction I was encouraged to follow.

My hope is that Josh and I will help Naleigh find her strengths, support, inspire, applaud, and shelter her as she succeeds and fails in them and work diligently and persistently to build and protect her fragile self-worth -- because it is fragile and in the world we live in today, it doesn’t seem to be enough of a priority for our young women.

It terrifies me, the amount of value we place on a woman’s looks, body, and ability to drop it like it’s hot on the dancefloor. It’s one thing to walk into a club and see twentysomethings embracing their sexuality and having some fun, but it’s another thing altogether watching seven-year-olds shake their booties, bellies, and nonexistent boobies on a stage in a room full of adults and be handed a trophy for it. What in the world are we telling them? That sexy is the prize and is the talent they have?

I used to perform in a local dance academy when I was growing up and we did jazz routines that were fun, imaginative, high energy, hip and age-appropriate! The young girls on Dance Moms are wonderfully talented, spirited ladies who should be encouraged to perform since they seem to truly have a knack for it. I just wish they were being inspired, instructed, and supported for their gifts as I was when I found my creative path. I wish they were being shown and taught by example that they are wonderful, unique and valuable for far more than their bodies, and their ability to be perfect at all times.

I pray that I reach my daughter and am able to guide and support her growth as a woman and hope with all my heart shows like this don’t get to her first. It is a true challenge we parents have ahead of us and the stakes are very high. We will have to perpetually battle and kick against the values mass media prioritize and emphasize those that truly matter. We will have to find a way to convince our children that what they see in the world around them is not always right and true even when it’s far more prevalent than what we tell them is right and true. We will have to hope, pray, and beg them to trust us and commit every moment to earning their trust so that we can ensure their emotional, spiritual, and physical well being and self-worth.

It breaks my heart that the task of raising well-rounded, happy young adults has been made to be so very challenging, but I will rise to the challenge because Naleigh deserves the same shot at living up to her potential as I got. My mother taught me strength, courage, discipline, and faith so I will rely on those lessons now to teach my daughter the same.

Heidi Klum and Seal Telling Kids About Separation

Breaking up is always hard to do -- but when there are kids involved, it becomes even more difficult. Luckily, Heidi Klum and Seal seem to be handling their split in the best way possible, and they're making their four children their first priority.

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood Live, Seal explained how he and his estranged wife broke the news of their breakup to their kids -- Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2.

"We tried to explain the best we could what is going on -- just explaining to them that things will be different," the singer said. "But a lot of things won't change, and the main thing is to make sure that they feel like they're loved. Make sure they understand that their parents love each other."

The devoted dad (who said this week that a reconciliation between him and his supermodel wife "may happen") also wants to make it clear to his little ones that their parents' split is not their fault.

"(We want to) make sure they understand that if there are any changes, it has absolutely nothing to do with them," he said. "And it won't change the amount of time that we spend with them. Quality time. It's not the amount of time...it's the quality of that time."

5 Superfood Snacks that Kids Will Love

If you've ever kept a food diary for a fitness trainer or nutritionist you know the horrible indignity of having a near stranger pick apart the goings on of your meal plan. Can you imagine if someone checked out our children's food diary? I can hear it now, "Great breakfast idea for little Scarlett, but why did she have a chocolate croissant and craft glue at 11 for a snack?"

It's such a mountain parents have to climb to come up with healthy meals AND snacks every flipping day. Some times the snacks are even harder than the meals. Outside of fruit, most of the really convenient stuff is crammed with sugar and has no nutritional value whatsoever. It's why it's best to choose items that count towards a kids daily nutritional quotient (think fruits, whole grains, dairy, vegetables). It's what those nutritionists would recommend after they finished stripping me of my pride.

These five superfood snacks are loaded with good stuff and easy enough to make it doable, but absolutely kid-friendly in delivery, whether it's a dip or a palm-sized muffin.

Wholegrain Blueberry Muffins
Makes one dozen full size muffins or 18 minis

1 1/4 cup wholewheat flour
1 1/4 cup quick oats
1/4 cup flax meal
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1 egg
3/4 cup blueberries

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
2. Lightly butter muffin tins.
3. In a large bowl blend all of the dry ingredients – except the sugar – together well.
4. In another bowl whip the wet ingredients and the sugar with an electric mixer.
5. Gently shake the dry ingredients into the wet, giving it a quick blend every few shakes. Stir in the blueberries.
6. Pour batter evenly into your muffin tins and pop into a hot oven. Bake for 20 minutes until they’re firm and toothpick comes out clean.

And four more kid-friendly, superfood snacks from Sweet Potato Chronicles!

Grape Salsa is a fun and delicious way to give grapes a new twist. Serve alongside some whole grain chips or toasted whole grain pita.

Edamame Hummus is a veggie twist on the easy dip that is great when paired with some toasted wholegrain pita.

Kale and Berry Smoothie is a double threat of nutition with phytonutrient-rich kale and antioxidant happy berries.

Not So Devil-ish Eggs have all the deliciousness of deviled eggs with out the all the feindish ingredients and an added hit of veggies.

According to E! News, the Twitter-friendly singer heeded a fan's call to action last week after she wrote him: "Hey @justinbieber! I BELIEB you should use that Canadian voice of yours and help save lives like mine #beanorgandonor beadonor.ca #giveblood".

The fan, Helene Campbell aka @alungstory, had no idea if Bieber would respond, but he did reply to the young Canadian woman, a lung-transplant survivor. He twittered: "i got the word....you have amazing strength. i got u. #BeAnOrganDonor."

But he didn't just hit the re-tweet button, the Biebster wrote a new message calling on all his fans: "help spread the word for @alungstory http://www.alungstory.ca/ #BeAnOrganDonor".

The 17-year-old superstar also addressed Campbell directly: "and @alungstory NEVER SAY NEVER".

After a grateful Campbell thanked Bieber for his support, he responded: "glad to be able to help. best part of what i do."

And Campbell isn't the only one who recognizes the "huge impact" Bieber made. The Ontario-based Trillium Gift of Life Network saw donations soar to 1,200 people, four times the amount the organ and tissue donation network usually receives, MTV reports.

"There are over 1500 people in Ontario waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.
Jim Carrey's Daughter Jane Auditions for 'American Idol'

It's not often that a celebrity kid tries out for Fox's American Idol. The reason seems obvious: Why face a cattle call when your parent could kick start your career with a few well-placed phone calls? <o p=""></o>

Nonetheless, there was Jane Carrey, the 24-year-old daughter of Jim Carrey, singing Bonnie Raitt's "Let's Give Them Something To Talk About" during a special episode that aired Sunday night after the NFC championship game. Watch Jane show off her pipes during her San Diego audition here:

So, Jane is going to Hollywood! Her daughter-of-Ace-Ventura status may have earned her a three-minute bio clip leading into her try-out, but a number of contestants, with no strings to pull, get similar treatment every episode. Personal contestant narratives are part of the show's winning formula.<o p=""></o>

What viewers didn't see during Jane's audition was footage of her standing around in line, waiting amid crowds of other hopefuls. It's possible that her dad's name allowed her to bypass that part. But her willingness to go through the process is still commendable. "Everyone growing up has, kind of, their issue with identity and trying to define themselves," says Jane, who is a single mother, a waitress and a musician. "It is difficult growing up in the shadow of something and trying to find your place in the world… I think that's also why I'm here, too. Just to make my place in the world."<o p=""></o>

Of course, she could have changed her last name, and gone through anonymously. But she points out that not dropping the Carrey has its own risk. "The last name definitely helps and hurts," she says. "I feel like there's kind of like this pressure to be good, because if I make it somewhere, people will say, 'Oh, you only got there because of this.' Sometimes that actually makes me worse, because I'm too nervous."<o p=""></o>

That's true enough, and the comment leaves the viewer wondering if she's about to illustrate her point by blowing the audition. Luckily, that doesn't happen. Jennifer Lopez remembers Jane as the two-year-old that Carrey used to bring around the set of In Living Color, when she was a Fly Girl, and they make some pretty effortless chitchat. Perhaps due to her proximity to her father's celebrity friends, Jane is poised and comfortable in front of Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. And her steady voice was good enough to earn three yeses that appeared genuine.<o p=""></o>

Will she be the next American Idol? Probably not. But there's no doubt that her likeable manner -- and that familiar, Jim Carrey smile -- allowed her to win fans among Idol's gigantic viewing audience. And that, too, is an excellent foot in the door.

American Idol is back on its regular schedule this week -- Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET, on Fox. <o p=""></o>
